Dear OMA members,
It goes without saying that 2020 has presented challenges and changes for many. Asher Wallis, guest speaker at OMA’s virtual annual meeting held on September 12, addressed this very gently. We encourage you to hear Asher speak on “Courage for Today, Preparing for Tomorrow.” A recording is available on the homepage of OMA’s website at www.omaoregon.org or on YouTube.
OMA is facing changes too, and we wish to provide you an update on one of our mortuary partners.
RIVER VIEW CEMETERY FUNERAL HOME TO END OMA CONTRACT
We are sorry to announce that, while River View Cemetery Funeral Home reorganizes their operations, our Portland partner of many years will discontinue honoring the discount package it has offered to OMA members.
River View has made an offer that any OMA member whose personal information form (PIF) is sent to River View by December 31, 2020 is entitled to a 10% discount on services or packages listed on their price list, IF the member pre-funds their individual funeral plan BY DECEMBER 31, 2020. Please know that this is more expensive than OMA’s previous contract. Overall, River View has served OMA members well throughout the years.
If you have filed a PIF with River View, you will receive or may have already received, a phone call from one of River View’s staff members to ask if you would like to pre-fund your plan or prefer to have your PIF returned to you. All previously paid plans with River View will, of course, be honored as arranged.
CORNERSTONE FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATION STILL HONORS OMA CONTRACT
If you are interested in transitioning to another provider, Greater Portland members have an excellent and affordable provider in Clackamas County that honors the OMA package at very reasonable prices. Owner Elizabeth Fournier is a knowledgeable, popular provider for OMA members. And, Cornerstone is a member of the Green Burial Council, a nonprofit organization working to encourage environmentally sustainable death care and the use of burial as a new means of protecting natural areas. Most importantly, we are confident that Cornerstone can meet your needs. You can find information on Cornerstone’s current price offerings as an OMA provider here. To learn more about Cornerstone, visit their website at www.cornerstonefuneral.com. Or, contact them by phone at (503) 637-5020 or by email at [email protected].
OTHER PROVIDERS SOUGHT AND END OF LIFE EDUCATION CONTINUES
The OMA Board of Directors is working hard to broaden body disposition options and negotiate more funeral packages for our members in Portland and statewide. We pledge to continue to serve OMA members well. Please keep looking at the website for updates on our progress.
If you have specific questions about this change, we invite you to view the Frequently Asked Questions page we've put together on our website.
We also continue to offer virtual sessions on end-of-life planning. If you are interested in attending an All’s Well That Ends Well workshop, the next one is planned online for Saturday, October 24. Pre-registration is required so we can supply you with the workbook. Learn more and register online here: http://www.omaoregon.org/workshops.html or contact the OMA office at [email protected].
We thank you for your understanding as we navigate this transition. OMA remains committed to helping our members choose dignified, meaningful, and affordable end-of-life services.
Sincerely,
Susan Robinson, Bill Harris, and Elizabeth Jessop
