Oregon Memorial Association was registered as a non-profit Oregon Organization in August, 1961.
The concept of OMA took shape when a group of friends, curious about funeral practices circa 1958, decided to collect information about the subject. They started with calls to funeral homes and cemeteries about prices and rules and regulations governing the funeral industry. This simple beginning led to the incorporation of OMA in 1961.
OMA's purpose is to advocate for funeral consumers by monitoring legislation, offering end-of-life education and assistance to the public, and providing access to economical funeral services. This led to cooperating agreements with mortuaries throughout Oregon for discounted prices for members. The cooperating mortuaries send a record fee to OMA at the time a member receives services.
OMA is registered with the IRS as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt non-profit organization with Federal Tax ID No. 27-3092448.
